Initial In-Home Consultation
This consultation is designed for households where behavior concerns involve tension, stress, or aggression between two cats. This includes tension that can arise from a new adoption, when cat caregivers combine homes, or when one cat is eliminating outside the litterbox and also having tension with a housemate. It is also appropriate when a caregiver wishes to have both cats evaluated, even if intercat tension is not the primary concern.
Even when one cat appears to be the primary concern, intercat dynamics frequently influence behaviors such as elimination outside the litter box, aggression, or anxiety. In two-cat homes, both individual wellbeing and social dynamics must be evaluated together.
We spend up to 2–2.5 hours in your home to allow a thorough assessment of each cat and the household dynamics to create a practical, humane plan.
Comprehensive behavioral histories for both cats
Review of each cat’s medical history and prior diagnostics
Physical examinations for each cat (dependent on stress levels)
Assessment of interaction patterns
Evaluation of your home environment, enrichment strategies, and resource placement
Identification of medical contributors to behavior
Discussion of medication support when appropriate
Structured conflict-reduction or reintroduction plan
Detailed, written medical and behavioral plan
Four weeks of direct email access to Dr. Liu — a rare opportunity for cat caregivers to receive ongoing, personalized guidance from a feline veterinarian
A whole-household approach allows us to address root causes rather than surface symptoms, creating more stable and lasting outcomes.
Many concerns that appear isolated — such as litter box avoidance or owner-directed aggression — are often influenced by subtle intercat stress. Evaluating only one cat in these situations does not address the underlying dynamic.
This consultation is designed for households where two cats are directly involved in the behavioral concern.
If more than two cats are contributing to the dynamics in your home, a 3-cat consultation allows for a more comprehensive evaluation.

While we will likely make progress with your cat’s behavior after the first visit, similar to a complex medical concern, rechecks help set your cat up for behavioral success. We recommend a virtual follow up visit within 6-8 weeks of the initial consult.
