Resources
All about the behavioral and medical health of cats
There’s so much info out there about feline health, so how do you know what sources to trust?
It’s always best to work directly with a vet like My Family Cat who can provide tailored medical and behavioral recommendations for your cat.
However, if you’re outside our Austin-based service area, here’s a collection of some of our favorite resources for cat parents.
-

International Cat Care
We LOVE icatcare! From their cat carer guides to general cat advice to their courses, icatcare is an excellent resource for cat parents, vet professionals, and pet professionals.
-

Cat Friendly Homes
The cat parent site for the Feline Veterinary Medical Association has tons of great info about all things feline. You can also use the “Find a Vet” tab to locate a Cat Friendly Practice or Cat Friendly Veterinarian such as My Family Cat’s Dr. Liu.

Fear Free Happy Homes
Fear Free’s pet parent site has a huge wealth of info focused on the emotional health of pets such as feline body language and finding a Fear Free Certified Practice/ Fear Free Certified Professional. Our feline veterinarian Dr. Julie Liu has been a frequent contributor.

Cat School
Cat training is fun for cats and their humans, and a great source of enrichment. We recommend Cat School to learn about clicker training, cooperative care, leash walking, and other skills to help aid in cat-to-cat introductions.
-

Karen Pryor Academy
While this site is primarily dedicated to positive reinforcement-based dog training (including clicker training) for canines, much of the content is applicable to felines. Check out their course, “Train Your Cat” and help enrich your cat’s life!
-

The OSU's Indoor Pet Initiative
Wonderful collection of cat resources about everything from feline life stressors to needs for your indoor cat to transitioning your outdoor cat indoors.
-

The OSU's Honoring the Bond
One of our favorite sites dedicated to supporting the human-animal bond, including resources on grief, assessing your pet’s quality of life, euthanasia, and behavioral euthanasia.
-

American College of Veterinary Behaviorists
Board-certified veterinary behaviorists have completed years of specialized behavioral training beyond their vet degree, and represent gold standard care for behavioral medicine. Learn more about veterinary behaviorists here.
